Pine Street Truck Exclusion - Public Hearing
The Halifax Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, November 14 at 8:30pm in the Selectmenís Meeting Room of the Halifax Town Hall to consider whether to approve a heavy commercial vehicle (5,000 pounds or 2.5 tons) exclusion for Pine Street from its intersection with Thompson Street to its intersection with Plymouth Street on the southern side of Plymouth Street.

The Board is considering this measure because the infrastructure of Pine Street including the pavement along its entire length and the bridge over a brook at its southern end are not built to withstand the large number of heavy commercial vehicles using Pine Street.

As part of the truck exclusion, the Board is proposing an alternate route for this commercial traffic, that route to be along Thompson Street from its intersection with Pine Street, to the intersection of Thompson Street and Plymouth Street, then west to the intersection of Pine Street and Plymouth Street.

The exclusion will not apply not apply to heavy commercial vehicles going to or coming from places upon said streets for the purpose of making deliveries of goods, materials, or merchandise to or similar collections from abutting land or buildings or adjacent streets or ways to which access cannot otherwise be gained; or to vehicles used in connection with the construction, maintenance and repair of said streets or public utilities therein; or to Federal, State, Municipal or public service corporation owned vehicles.

Any interested party is welcome to attend and participate in this hearing. Anyone who cannot attend may send comments to the Board of Selectmen, 499 Plymouth Street, Halifax, MA 02338 or send comments via e-mail to
