The Town of Halifax will hold its annual Memorial Day observances on Monday, May 25. Parade marchers should gather at Shelby Plaza, just south of the intersection of Routes 58 and 106, starting at 9:00am. The parade will start at 9:30am and go from Shelby Plaza to the Halifax Town Hall. At approximately 10:00am, the ceremonies will begin including speeches, the reading of the winning essays from students at Halifax Elementary School, and the laying of the wreaths. All are invited to attend.
The Halifax Highway Department at 60 Hemlock Lane will accept brush at this location from 8am to noon on Saturday, May 30 from Halifax residents. No bags/piles of leaves or grass clippings. No large trees.
The Friends of the Holmes Public Library will hold their annual Book & Bake Sale on Saturday, May 30, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library. Donations of gently used books, DVDs, and CDs are welcome during the month of May. Please bring donations during regular library hours, and remember to come back and shop the sale! This year, whatever is left after the day of the sale will be made available for sale during regular library hours the following week, so come back and browse again for even bigger bargains! The Friends will also be looking for donations of baked goods on Friday, May 29, and the morning of the sale. The Halifax Council on Aging will hold a "Go the Distance" 1 mile walk challenge on Wednesday, June 3, beginning at 3:30pm. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. Once walkers have finished the route, they will be invited to the Turkey Burger Cookout Party.
The Silver Lake Middle School Parents Teachers Organization will meet on Wednesday, June 3 at 7pm in the Middle School Library. All are welcome to attend.
The Halifax Recycling Center will hold its monthly hazardous waste collection day on Saturday, June 6 from 7:30am to 12:30pm at the Recycling Center, 917 Plymouth Street. All household hazardous waste must be in the original labeled sealed container; container cannot be leaking or rusted. No Exceptions.
Register this 5-K race/walk fundraising event for the HOPS playground on Saturday, June 6. In addition, they will also be holding a Kids 1K Fun Run/Walk afterwards @ 11 AM at the track behind the Halifax Elementary School.
The Halifax Congregational Church will be having its Annual Plant Sale and Luncheon on Saturday, June 6 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm - rain or shine. There will be a variety of annuals and perennials to choose from to give color and beauty to your garden or planting beds. We will also be selling various gardening items from our garden shop and raffle tickets for a chance to win a brand new wheelbarrow filled with lots of garden accessories. For our wonderful luncheon this year we will be serving homemade Italian subs which can be purchased by the inch and Portuguese Kale soup, a big crowd pleasure which sells out fast! The luncheon starts at 11:00 am. Please be sure to bring your hearty appetite. We look forward to seeing you there and assisting you with your plant selections.

The Norwell Visiting Nurses Association will provide a free, walk-in, adult blood pressure and blood sugar screening clinic on Wednesday, June 17 at the Our Lady of the Lake Church from 10:00am to 11:00am. Our Lady of the Lake Church will hold a parish yard sale on Saturday, June 20 from 9am to 2pm. The Church is gladly accepting donated items which can be left at the parish hall. Please no large furniture or VHS tapes. All monies raised from the event are used to support the Church's activities in Halifax.
